Are you confused on which diet works or should you become a vegetarian, vegan or a raw food person?  I was there many decades ago so let me make it simple, sweet and to the point.  Let’s get started now.

One who eats some fish, chicken or eggs can be classified as a vegetarian.  They are graduates from the traditional meat and potato diet. Consider this like a breaking into a healthier diet or lifestyle as see it.   

These are people who abstain from any product coming from an animal. Yes it includes dairy, ice cream and cheese too.   However, vegans are able to make many dishes without using animal ingredients.

When you hear someone is a vegetarian they could be using that term loosely to mean either a vegetarian or a vegan.  You would need to ask them for clarification like “do you eat any animal products?” 

For many years I was 100% a raw food person.  I didn’t “dare” eat a cooked food. However, not feeling any different from being a long time vegan I found my comfort zone: eating tons of raw foods with some cooked vegan at times.

Famous vegetarians…
Natalie Portman, Alicia Silverstone, Olivia Wilde, Pamela Anderson, and Chelsea Clinton are vegetarians.  The tennis star sisters, the Williams sisters, are now vegetarians and heard they now eat raw foods.

The Chinese and the Olympics…

In a recent article Chinese athletes, who train hard to be in the London Olympics have turned vegetarian.  They don’t want to be disqualified by the World Anti Doping Agency.  The head of catering, Yang Hongbo, at the Jiangsu Sports Training Centre, is challenged finding beef safe to eat.  Meats raised on feed that contains clenbuterol may be the cause for athletes to be disqualified.  

Where’s the safe meat…
Slaughter houses in Beijing and other providences can’t get a guarantee from them to say the beef is without additives.  So why take the risk? As a result the athletes went vegetarian.

More chemicals in the animal feed for leaner meat has clenbuterol or ractopamine in it.  Ractopamine was banned in China in 2011 but clenbuterol is acceptable still. Even in the United State and Canada clenbuterol is acceptable to us. 

Now what…
Are you thinking you can’t change?  If you think you can’t you are right. If you wish to start to change start now.  I believe the slower route is acceptable to some, but for me, I jumped in with both feet. 

Be sure to check with your medical adviser.  Do they know all the answers? No, but they have the license and I don’t.

How do you change…
Perhaps the best support may come from an online support group.  I am looking to create one. If interested let me know.  Your friends too are welcome.  Take a local class, read online articles or search for recipes. I feel the biggest thing people need is encouragement. I can help with that if you desire to connect.

The garden…

Get the garden ready so you can enjoy all the veggies possible or shop for organics at health food store or farmer's market. Yes your supermarket too.

Reflecting and Acting…
With the athletes changing do you feel there is good evidence for you to make a switch to becoming a vegetarian?  Has the vegan dishes shared fooled you and give you a teaser seeing that we do eat well?

You’re confusing pescatarians (vegetarians + fish), ovo-lacto vegetarians (no meat, but yes to eggs and dairy) and lacto vegetarians (no meat or eggs, but yes to dairy)
A person who says they are “vegetarian” but eats flesh products (chicken, fish) are absolutely NOT vegetarian. Please correct the misinformation that you’ve written.

Some vegetarians do eat animal products, but “vegans” don’t. Just clearing up any misunderstanding. Vegetarians come in different “forms.”
