Christmas pet adoptions are on the rise. Pets are not toys you take in, get tired of and toss back.  Think of the emotional trauma it does to them.  I hope my information below will be useful to avoid the “toss back toy” syndrome.  Tis the season when adopting pets is high.  I have adopted dogs for over 40 years. All pets are wonderful but I am mostly drawn to the dog world.  However, let’s grab a cup of tea and talk before you adopt any pet.

Here are 5 tips to help you think through the process before doing it.

User friendly house: Are you gone all day, kids jumping up and down when you are home, leaving the dog or cat home most of the day/night and leaving little time to cuddle up with your pet.

Cost of having a pet: Are you able to afford to have a pet and feed them healthy? There are many pet foods that you scoop out of the bag or open a can.  There is another way called BARF where you feed pet mainly raw foods.  I’m not an expert but google for information.  I I do give her cooked chicken and fish.  I feel that this is a great combo for my needs and budget.  She does take supplements.

Are you around for touch, hug and petting the pet?  How much time in the day do you have for your pet? The power of touch, hugging, speaking speak words to your pet will make him/her field like part of the family.  Isn’t this what you would want for yourself so why not do that for your pet?

Vet Visits: There are times like recently that pet needs a check up or vet visit like our dog. she was recently diagnosed with Lupus.  It was a costly but she is healed when all the odds were against her.  However my heart said yes and vets said no.  Glad I listened and saw the results being great.  At 11 she is recovered from Lupus.  Books coming.

Enjoy: Can you enjoy the blessings these pets bring?

Are you read to adopt a pet?

I love all of them. I bet you can.  I grew up without them in my life and now they are part of my life. Without them I feel a void.  Their unconditional love is priceless.
